FORENSICS: Identification and Infidelity Just as legal and law enforcement agencies are looking to forensic testing to help solve unanswerable questions, private individuals have the opportunity to explore forensic DNA testing for answers too. If you are looking to prove a relationship but are unable to convince another person to DNA test for any reason, suspect a loved one of infidelity, or are looking for proof of other wrongdoing, GenQuest is here to help. We provide investigative identity testing to the general public at a reduced cost from our legal forensic testing. Like forensics, this testing can be used to determine if certain bodily fluids are present or to obtain a profile from a stain or an object to investigate suspicious activity. These investigative tests do not fall under the scope of GenQuest’s ANAB accreditation and therefore results cannot be used in a court of law. For information on legally admissible forensic DNA testing available to legal and law enforcement agencies, visit our Legal Forensics page. TYPES OF TESTS Tests offered by GenQuest for investigative purposes include: o Serological Testing for semen, blood, and saliva o Differential Lysis Extractions o Autosomal (STR) DNA Testing o Male Lineage (Y-STR) Testing SAMPLE INFORMATION Investigative DNA testing usually involves one or more nonstandard samples. For information about the types of samples that can be submitted for identification or infidelity testing, please visit our Nonstandard Samples page. If you are trying to identify a particular person on an item, you will need to submit a reference sample. Reference samples are most often buccal cheek swabs from a specific identified person. If you are unable to obtain a reference sample you can provide another nonstandard sample that you know the person has used. If any submitted item yields a mixture of more than one profile, a comparison of the mixture will incur an additional fee. There is never a guarantee that a nonstandard sample or evidentiary item will provide a usable profile. If you have a potential sample and are not sure where a profile might be obtained from it, please contact our analysts to determine whether or not it could possibly yield a profile. GenQuest recommends handling any potential samples with gloves to avoid contamination. Place the samples in paper envelopes, bags, or cardboard boxes and ship or bring to GenQuest dry to avoid DNA degradation and therefore loss of potential evidence. Placing samples in plastic containers is never recommended and could lead to the aforementioned degradation. If you know where you would like GenQuest to test, please indicate the area with a marker or tape around the area or by identifying the area in writing. PRICES AND PAYMENT GenQuest staff work with private clientele to ensure the testing process is tailored to each client’s needs. Due to the customized test process of each case, testing prices can vary widely. GenQuest may require a deposit when a test is initiated, and any remaining balance is due at the completion of the test. Results will not be released until full payment is received. For additional information about costs and payment or to discuss your situation and obtain a quote, please contact GenQuest. ORDER A TEST To begin a forensic test, please submit a completed Evidence Submission Form and your quoted deposit with your intended sample(s). Private parties are responsible for the shipment of samples to/from the laboratory. Testing will take 1-3 weeks, depending on the samples submitted for testing. For further information about this investigative DNA testing, please contact GenQuest to discuss your situation with an analyst.
