What is DNA?

What is DNA?

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a large molecule that is found in all
living cells and is the physical carrier of genetic information. DNA
is in all cells of the body with the exception of red blood cells in the
form of 46 chromosomes. Sperm and eggs have only 23 chromosomes
each. At conception 23 chromosomes are contributed by the sperm from
the father and 23 chromosomes by the egg from the mother, thus creating
a child with 46 (23 pair) of chromosomes. DNA paternity testing can
establish a probability that half of the child's DNA was contributed by the
alleged father. DNA paternity test can also establish that the alleged
father is not the biological father.
