OTHER SERVICES: Nonstandard Samples GenQuest offers DNA testing on nonstandard samples. Nonstandard samples (evidentiary samples in a forensic test) are any kind of sample submitted which is not a buccal cheek swab or an FTA blood card. Due to the nature of nonstandard samples, there is no guarantee that the sample will yield a usable profile. To increase the chances of obtaining a usable profile, never store a sample in a plastic bag or airtight container—always place items in a paper envelope, paper bag, or cardboard box and store in a cool, dry area. Handle potential samples with gloves to avoid contamination. GenQuest recommends the following nonstandard samples: o Toothbrush o Finger or toe nail clippings o A bottle, can, or straw o Cigarette butts o Bandage or tissue with blood o Q-tips o Gum o Underwear If you are attempting to submit hair, you will need to provide several strands plucked directly from the head with roots attached. Please contact GenQuest for questions about other nonstandard samples you are thinking about submitting for testing. Nonstandard samples can be submitted for both non-legal and court admissible testing purposes. Court admissible testing on nonstandard samples requires a chain of custody from an unbiased third party. Visit our Estate Protection and Legal Forensics pages for information about court admissible nonstandard sample testing. Prices for nonstandard samples will vary. Please contact GenQuest to discuss the cost of submitting a nonstandard sample.
