The general process for a DNA test with GenQuest is outlined below, and can be broken down into five steps: Contacting GenQuest, starting your test, the collection of samples, the testing, and the release of the results. 1. Contact GenQuest Initiating a test with GenQuest is quick and easy! When you contact GenQuest, you will have the opportunity to discuss your situation with our staff, ask questions, and obtain a quote for the service you need. 2. Start Your Test When you choose to begin your test, our staff will ask for some basic information based on the type of testing you’re looking for and the initial payment due for your testing. Once the necessary information and payment is received, the testing process will begin and you will proceed to step three. Call or email today, or visit our Order page to begin your test. 3. Collection of Samples Once a test is initiated, the participants will be collected. GenQuest can collect participants all over the United States. Participants in personal knowledge tests can perform the collection themselves in the comfort of their own home. For court admissible tests, GenQuest will arrange for a collection with an unbiased third party near you. The actual collection of the DNA sample is a safe, reliable, and noninvasive procedure using buccal cheek swabs. Court admissible test collections require legal identification, and if a minor is involved in the testing, a legal guardian to sign for consent. Participants in the Reno/Sparks area of Nevada are welcome to come to our office in Sparks for their collection. We have open walk-in hours from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 4. Testing of Samples Once the samples are collected they are sent to GenQuest’s laboratory for testing. Testing the samples typically takes five to seven business days. Our analysts process the buccal swab samples through the following quality-controlled and established testing steps: 1. Extract DNA from the buccal swab. 2. Perform polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on the extracted DNA to make billions of copies of the DNA. 3. Analyze the PCR products on the ABI Prism® 3130 genetic analyzer to determine the alleles for each sample. 4. Determine relatedness based on the identified alleles for each participant. 5. Calculate the relationship index or the statistical measure of the relationship. 5. Release of Results Results are released only to authorized recipients by email, mail, or in person. GenQuest does not release reports over the phone or to unauthorized parties. All destinations must be requested in writing by a test participant. If you need help interpreting your results, please visit our easy-to- use Interpreting Your Results page, or you can call GenQuest and our staff will be happy to help you with understanding your results.
